Rhianna, Victoria Silverstedt, Cascada, Avril Levine, Celine were among the few presenters and award winners who strutted off stage with a Nicolita bikini. Latin Star requests an exclusive feature of Nicole Sainz of Nicolita for their premier issue. A six-page pictorial including a full spread of Nicolitaâs top suits of the season were pictured. Among those were the ruffled bum bottom Ole Suit, the best selling Knotty Nicolita, the Sexy Senorita and the Casa Cabana.

story. The Cuban-American beauty has
combined her business and marketing savvy with her own Latina sense of style to launch one of the trendiest swimsuit lines in the country. Cool under the heat of pressure, this college-educated design diva-in-the making began designing handbags while still attending USC in Los Angeles. Her sensational sense of style quickly caught on among friends and classmates and the Nicolita line was born. This sassy sister soon launched her own website, along with a sexy new product â custom-made bikinis. Today, her Nicolita line can be
found in high-end boutiques and department
stores such as Nordstrom and Dillards around the country. The bikini line, which is based on a character named Nicolita, has been so successful, it has become Sainzâs No. 1 product. She tells Latin Star she will be re-launching the handbag line in 2008. Although her line has become known worldwide (she just returned
from Puerto Rico from a photo shoot and promotion with Cosmo), she still
oversees the designs and production herself.
Before taking on the business world full time, Sainz did fi nish her degree
program at USCâs prestigious Marshall School of Business with a degree in
marketing and entrepreneurship. Her college experience and networking led to some internships and she ended up working at a lot of great events, such as
the Grammys and the Golden Globes. âI had a huge opportunity and it opened my eyes to the possibilities,â she tells Latin Star. âI started selling and it just took off. I was going to parties
in the fashion industry, so it gave me a lot of contacts and an inside look. It was a great fundamental learning experience.â
While the bikini line (see her scintillating
line in full affect at a Latin Star
pool party â pages 54-57) is her No. 1
priority these days, she intends to get
into designing thongs and dresses in the
near future. âRight now Iâm focused on
the bikinis because Iâm kind of a one-woman
operation. I am also going to be
introducing some stuff for men... shorts
and briefs, just basics to introduce it.â
Nicolita is just the beginning for
the 20-something Sainz, who has her
sights set on a bigger picture. âThere
are so many companies out there that
have the corporate structure I strive for... Warnaco â those with their own brands, such as Anne Klein, Donna Karan. Seeing what the possibilities are, I look at the potential of Nicolita â my No. 1 goal is to build a company that I will be happy about.â Sainz says she received a lot of support from her parents. âThey made the possibilities endless because they never said ânoâ,â she explains. âThey let me be creative. With their support it has helped me become more creative and driven.â
To drive her fashion line, Sainz has created a character... a young woman who is a worldly traveler on the search for love, laughter and life. âNicolita is a fi ctitious character,â Sainz muses with a hint of mystique. âWhere is she right now and what is she wearing? I have been able to bring the story to life. In 2006, I brought her from Cuba to Morocco... and then last year she went from Morocco to Spain. I start with a story... where is she, what is she doing, who has she left, who did she fall in love with? I start from there and start designing from the story. The Oleâ design, for example, came out of when she went to Spain she fell in love with a bullfighter... sheâs flirting with him, so I created a design that would fit that moment.â Sainz tells Latin Star that the individual designs drive her more than the material. âIâm not print driven. Iâm more interested in the design. I work with a lot of solids. I do a lot of Italian Lycra.â The naughty Nicolita did an exclusive photo shoot with Latin Star... can you spot the sexy siren among the lovely ladies? Sainz herself choose the specifi c designs for our pool party with a purpose! âWe were so excited,â she exudes about the photo shoot. âWe were thinking of Latin Star and Latina... Senorita.
