Giving Thanks- Cuban Style

It was a year ago the day after Thanksgiving that we traveled to Cuba to film the documentary and embark on a life changing adventure. I cannot believe a year has gone by so quickly and how much my life feels fulfilled and enriched to have experienced that trip with my parents and sister.

During that Thanksgiving dinner, I remember feeling the excitement, anticipation, and and a little bit of shock that we were actually going to fly to Cuba. Something that I had dreamed of for so long, and it was actually going to happen the following day. As we were saying grace and giving thanks that night, we were all thankful for our family and quality time together, but most of all the chance to all travel together as a family to Cuba.

The first week of our two week adventure was all about visiting family. At the end of the first week of our trip, we were blessed to break bread with our family in Holguin and celebrate another “Thanksgiving” Cuban Style!! This was my favorite meal of the entire trip. I can still taste that amazing Lechon Asado as if it was yesterday!!!! Our cousins took my parents to the street market where they bought an entire PIG for us to eat and we made all the side dishes back at their house. The Pig was perfectly golden brown!!

My cousins peeling the garlic.

My cousin firing up the stove.

…and Me digging – in…yummmmyy!!!!

Best feast EVER!!!! Not sure why I look a little surprised in this picture!! lol!!

  1. My cuban family and I were deeply touched by your visit to Cuba. You inspired us in many ways and are planning a trip also. Our best to you and your wonderful family and if you ever need a puerco asado in Colorado, we would honored to have you over.

    Gracias,
