LOS ANGELES –Style Fashion Week will launch its sophomore season October 17th-22nd, 2011 during Market Week in downtown Los Angeles. The six-day production will feature an elite lineup of designers showcasing their spring 2012 collections. Fashion industry leaders, media, and celebrity guests should anticipate seeing an eclectic and dynamic montage of designs from swimwear to vintage-inspired pin-up looks to California-based fashion collectives. Read on to learn more about some of the highlighted designers hitting the SFW runway this fall.
Known for its focus on conservative sexy and curve-conscious styles, combined with a blend of a vintage glamour and modern silhouettes, Nicolita Swimwear is set to heat things up on October 17th for Style Fashion Week’s opening night. Designer, Nicole Di Rocco, will showcase her 2012 collection “Con Sabor Tropical!” and will complete each sultry look with eye-catching designs from Chinese Laundry shoes and accessories for men from CUBAVERA. Nicolita has become a celebrity favorite; A-listers including Tori Spelling, Beyonce, Kristen Cavallari, Rihanna, and Britney Spears are among customers of the brand. Nicolita has set itself apart in the swimwear industry with a signature fit of “Cuban-style swimwear bottoms” designed for the curvaceous Latina figure. “Cuban-style bottoms are designed with more coverage on the hips, a heart-shaped backside and ‘no-pinch’ fit elastic,” said Di Rocco.
La La Land opts for “wildlife as the focus of the season” as its Spring 2012 line takes the runway on October 17th, closing the first day of Style Fashion Week. Created in Los Angeles, its namesake resonates with the concept that “everyone is a little La La” and offers whimsy and fun with a line of “comfy tees, maxi skirts, oversized silhouettes and cropped designs [made from] soft knits and chiffon.” SFW eagerly awaits La La Land’s collection as a local favorite.
A leading lifestyle brand, Alternative Apparel brings its spring collection to Fashion Week on October 18th. Its line, “Oasis of Color, will feature rich textures, sun-bleached desert washes, bold prints and a vibrant color palette.” Expect to see “asymmetrical maxi-dresses and high-waisted mini-skirts in colorful prints, as well as a selection of must-have novelty pieces for women, including sheer, mesh tanks, cut-out sweatshirts and beaded Baja Cloth ponchos.” Alternative Apparel also produces a men’s line that will offer “breezy Baja Woven’s in hoodies, shorts, and button-downs” for spring.
Adding to more local flair, Style Fashion Week welcomes the return of L.A. favorites, Gypsy 05 and Stop Staring. On October 18th, Stop Staring! will reveal a new collection of retro-inspired dresses that have an über-feminine, vintage feel. Following its namesake, Stop Staring! will ensure that your gaze stops when its line of curve-hugging looks takes on Fashion Week.
Gypsy 05, whose collection is made right here in Hollywood, will hit the runway on Wednesday, October 19th. According to these designers, “Gypsy 05 is a lifestyle brand that transitions from day to night attire with ease for both men and women. It is predominantly a t-shirt line, but also incorporates unique casual dresses, pants, and sweaters.” The brand prides itself on “[continuing] to push the envelope in creating a truly distinctive collection.”
Showcasing a wide range of styles in a fast-paced, high-energy runway show, “California Dreaming: A Fashion Celebration for a Cause,” will present the collections of ten California-based designers on October 20th. From red carpet, menswear, and juniors to contemporary, skate, and surf, the shows will benefit Fashion Business Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting emerging designers. The event will include the presentation of Moss Adams LLP’s prestigious Moss Adams Fashion Innovator (MAFI) Award.
The Moss Adams Fashion Innovator award will be given to a local designer who has shown exemplary innovation and has significantly impacted the national marketplace in the past year through excellence in manufacturing, marketing, and creativity of design. Previous winning designers have become icons in the fashion industry including Petro Zillia and Frankie B., and this year will be no exception.
Rounding out the week on October 22nd, Gen Art will showcase an entire night of emerging fashion designers. A long-time supporter of Gen Art, Zoe Saldana will host their return to the fashion industry at Style fashion Week. With a track record of “alumni [including] Zac Posen, Rebecca Taylor, Philip Lim, Vena Cava, and Rodarte,” Gen Art continues its legacy fashion program, “Fresh Faces in Fashion.” This is set to be an unforgettable night with talented designers such as 71 STANTON, Dear Creatures, Funktional, ODYLYNE, We Are Handsome, CHAMBERS, IMAN TOLOUI, PLOMO, Sticks & Stones, TOMTOM, and Stand and Deliver. SFW is honored to welcome this respected organization.
Style Fashion Week is set to be a huge success with the support of its amazing sponsors: Warren Tricomi, VoCe Haircare, Napoleon Perdis, Bijou Tresor, Clarisonic, Pop Chips, Vita Coco, VNC cocktails, and Monster Energy Drink.
SFW sponsors will also provide a full range of services backstage to prepare for each night’s productions. With Clarisonic, achieving gorgeous skin has never been easier. Clarisonic aestheticians will treat models to mini facials backstage prepping their skin for Napoleon Perdis makeup. Napoleon Perdis makeup maestros sought to demystify makeup and to transform runway and red carpet trends into a wearable reality. Warren Tricomi and VoCe will round out backstage beauty prep. Warren Tricomi’s highly skilled team includes some of L.A.’s most admired beauty stylists. They will collaborate with designers to create one of a kind hair trends using VoCe Hair Care products, infused with energizing, refreshing fragrances that leave hair smelling as good as it looks. Hola! I'm Nicolita owner & designer Nicole Di Rocco. In this video I'll show you why and how we created our signature Nicolita Bottom fit.
Nicolita has one-of-kind swimwear styles that are carefully designed to flatter your figure. Say goodbye to those ill-fitting bikini bottoms and say hello to comfort and fit!
Below are a few of our most popular styles that were designed with YOUR hips in mind.
I want to help you find the Perfect Fit Nicolita Style. Below I have created a Nicolita Swimwear Fit guide to match your curves with our swimwear options and styles. If you still have questions of which bikini or one piece style would look best with your body shape just Call 866-NICOLITA (866-642-6548) Email hola@mynicolita, or Skype me @mynicolita.
Over the last 13 years since I started Nicolita in 2003, I have worked with a lot of Nicolita clients on selecting the perfect swimsuit for them. I'm the first to admit that wearing a bikini or one piece swimsuit can be challenging for the majority of us. Even if you have a rockin' body, there are certain styles that work better on certain body shapes.
But I am a strong believer that there is the perfect swimsuit out there for you. And we have gone ahead and picked out some styles that are flattering for you!
Women with larger cup sizes are primarily looking for 2 things when trying on swimwear: coverage and support. While going up a size in the top can provide more coverage, some styles just won’t provide the coverage and support you may be looking for. Look for styles with side boning and molded cups to give you the support and coverage you desire, without the pinching of an underwire! For support and coverage, check out:
Have a smaller bust and want to create the illusion of a bigger chest? Styles with details like ruffles and molded cups will add volume and create cleavage!
For adding volume to a smaller chest, check out:
If you’re looking to tone down the appearance of broad shoulders, look for one-shoulder and detailed tops which will draw attention away from wide set shoulders. Deep V necklines will keep the attention focused on your chest and the low cut back will make your shoulders appear more narrow.
To elongate the torso, check out:
Looking to add more curve to that backside? Look for bottoms with backside details like ruffles, shirring, or our signature knotty bottom. These details add more curve to your bottom and create a more shapely bum.
To add curves to a not so curvy bottom, check out:
We all have those days we would rather cover our midsection. To conceal your midriff while flattering your other assets, look for styles that have shirring throughout the midsection to camouflage any insecurities.
For tummy control, check out:
Trying to keep your skin out of the sun, or just desire to be more covered? Look for styles that provide more coverage without sacrificing style, like high-neck tops, high-waist bottoms, and one pieces!
